Webinar, Encoding Best Practices for the Enterprise, archive is up
- 3-30-2011
On Tuesday, March 29, I held a webinar entitled, Encoding Best Practices for the Enterprise. The attendees learned:
- How their streaming files compared to prominent Media, B2C and B2B sites. This segment presented the results of a survey of the codec and streaming configurations deployed by top network and corporate web sites, including which sites supported the iPad and HTML5 (see below).
- How to efficiently reach desktop and mobile devices via new "transmuxing" technologies that convert a single stream into multiple streams targeting different platforms.
- The current status of HTML5 video, including HTML5 browser penetration, the status of HTML5 codecs and how HTML5-related video capabilities compare to Flash and Silverlight regarding features like adaptive streaming, live streaming, digital rights management, multicasting, peer-to-peer distribution and support for webcams.

You can watch the webcast and download the PowerPoint slides from the presentation, but you will have to register to either watch the presentation or download the slides.

Hello, Jan
Thanks for making this available for re-watching--I was finally able to view the entire webinar and get all of the slides. I will definitely be watching this a few more times. :)
A question: you said that most European sites (outside of the UK) were not available for viewing in the US. Does that mean that you weren't able to analyze their videos, or you couldn't get to the sites and watch their videos at all?
Most European sites that I go to I have no trouble viewing their videos; and I just downloaded one and put it into the mediainfo analyzer that you mentioned at the beginning of your webinar, and it analyzed it just fine. Granted, most European sites that I go to are not main news sites or large B2B or B2C sites, but this video that I used was from a site that had its own player on the site, it wasn't just an embed from YouTube.
Anyway, thanks again for this!
Glad it worked out for you. What I meant to say was that most Euro media sites (like French or Swiss TV) are geo-blocked. For example, if you try to go here:
http://tvair.swisscom.ch/#LiveTV?language=en
from the states, you'll be geo=blocked.
Hope that helps.
Jan
I see what you're saying. I guess I've just never happened across a European site that protects its content. Live and learn! :)
Thanks again!
